7 tips for a stress-free Christmas

'Tis the season for Christmas festivities: there’s treats to bake, gifts to buy and plenty of friends and family to entertain. So, keep up the festive cheer and survive the Christmas school holidays this year with these stress-free tips.

1. Plan ahead
Start by writing a list of things that need to be organised before the big day, such as shopping, travel plans, cooking, decorations and so on. Decide on the items that take precedence and get a jump start on them (even if it is November)! Christmas will come around a lot quicker than you think!

2. Remember what Christmas is all about
It isn’t about buying the most expensive gift in the shop or getting stressed if things don’t go to plan – it’s about spending quality time with those you love. Whether that’s singing Christmas songs at the top of your lungs, or having that extra piece of chocolate or glass of wine (or both), create wonderful memories to look back on in years to come. Don’t stress about not getting that Christmas card to your Mums Cousins Best friend's Sister – it’s really not a big deal!

3. Wrap as you go
Don't leave the wrapping for the night before Santa visits. As soon as pressies arrive, wrap, label and pop them under the tree or up the loft. This way, you’re able to avoid mixing presents up and it also saves you the trouble of dealing with cheeky kids in search of their long-awaited toys and Christmas morning goodies. It also means that you get to relax on Christmas Eve too!

4. Ask for help
There are always plenty of duties and errands that need to get done. So rather than overworking yourself, ask for help. For example, have the little elves decorate the tree whilst you do the housework. It’s not called the season of giving for nothing!

5. Embrace DIY Decorations:
Want to avoid the stress of perfectionism? Let your creative spirit fly with some do-it-yourself decorations. Get crafty and involve the whole family in making ornaments, paper snowflakes, or even a quirky reindeer sculpture out of recycled materials. Not only will your home look fabulous, but the laughter and memories will make it extra special.

6. Stick to a budget
I’m sure we’re all guilty of this. You’ve got a £20 budget for a gift, you walk in to the shop and see the most PERFECT pressie... but it’s double /triple the amount you wanted to spend and you’ve already overspent on other things. Walk away. There will be plenty of other great alternatives. Christmas shouldn’t be about stressing yourself out about money. Cliché, but it really is the thought that counts.

7. Make time for yourself
Remember, it’s your Christmas too. Sometimes it’s hard to remember when you’re busy trying to make it perfect for everyone else. But don’t forget yourself. Get your hair done, sit down, talk to family, catch up with friends, and make time for YOU! Whether it's sipping a cup of tea by the fireplace or taking a relaxing bubble bath, it's essential to recharge your festive spirit. Remember, a relaxed you is the best gift you can give to your loved ones.

8. Wrap up warm
Unless you’re lucky enough to celebrate Christmas in the heat, like our Ozzie friends across the pond, December gets very cold. This usually means snuffly noses and feeling a little under the weather, and the last thing you want, is to get ill for Christmas. So, remember to wrap up, wear that oversized jumper and of course, make sure you have some cosy jammies from My Christmas Pyjamas to snuggle in to of an evening.
